Finding God is often a most challenging notion, especially when we seek His presence. In moments of trials, pain, and suffering, we yearn for God to rescue us from these predicaments. We pray to Him and plead for healing and resolution. The Bible says that “God is everywhere.” But, in many moments, we waiver in our faith and think that God is nowhere to be found, or we find difficulty connecting to Him.

We must remember that we were made in God’s image, and His primary purpose for us is to have eternal fellowship with Him. God is always looking out for us. But our sins and disobedience block His presence.

How To Find God When You Can’t See Him?

The Omnipresence Of God

The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.

Proverbs 15:3

The Bible says that God is omnipresent, meaning He is everywhere at the same time. This means that no matter where we are in the universe, God is there with us. Whether we are on a mountain or an ocean, God is watching over us and guiding our paths.

God’s presence can be felt in all aspects of life. We can feel His love and protection in times of joy or sorrow; He is always there to comfort us and provide guidance when needed. He has created the universe for us to explore and discover, yet He remains ever-present to help us on our journey.

God’s omnipresence gives us hope that no matter what circumstances we may face, He will never leave our side. His presence provides peace of mind and the assurance that He will always be with us through thick and thin.

Indwelling Of The Holy Spirit

Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”

Galatians 4:6

The indwelling of the Holy Spirit[1] is a fundamental belief of Christianity, which teaches that the Spirit of God lives within each believer. This presence of the Holy Spirit in us gives us strength, guidance, and comfort to help us navigate our lives as children of God.

The Bible states that when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, we become temples of God and He dwells in our hearts. This indwelling presence is what allows us to be guided by the Holy Spirit in all truth and righteousness. We can also experience the fruits of the Holy Spirit, such as love, joy, peace, patience, and more.

In short, the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit helps to strengthen us spiritually so that we can live life according to God’s will and purpose for our lives.

Look To Jesus

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

— John 14:6

If we want to seek God and have eternal fellowship with Him, we must accept Jesus Christ as our Messiah. He is our Lord and Savior, sent by God to redeem us from our sins. God raised Him from the dead and through His incarnation and demise on the cross, Jesus has opened up a path of salvation for all who believe in Him. The Lord invites us to look to Him as our source of hope and strength.

He promises that if we follow Him faithfully, we will find true joy and peace in His presence. Jesus is the only path to finding God. As we turn our gaze towards Jesus, let us remember that He is God’s perfect gift to humanity, sent out of love for us all.

What Does It Mean To Find God?

To Seek His Presence

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the LORD.

Jeremiah 29:13–14

The search for God is an age-old quest that has been undertaken by many throughout history. It is a journey of faith, hope, and love that leads to a deeper understanding of the divine. When we remain open to the power of the Holy Spirit, we can find God in our hearts and minds.

Through prayer and meditation, as well as by studying His Word, we can come to know Him better and experience His constant presence in our lives. Seeking Him requires us to be receptive to the possibilities of what He has for us, allowing us to have a more intimate relationship with Him. By taking the time to seek out God’s presence in our lives, we can find solace and comfort in knowing that He is always there for us.

To Follow Christ

Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.

John 12:26

During His earthly ministry, Jesus picked and appointed twelve apostles and other disciples who came from different ranks of society—fishermen, tax collectors, doctors, and others. They dropped their nets and occupations to follow Jesus and learn about the Kingdom of God.

Following Christ is not an easy task. It requires obedience and servanthood. It demands that we take up our cross and suffer in His name. We must deny ourselves and put Him first in all that we do. Following Christ is a lifelong journey of faith, sacrifice, and service to others. We must be willing to give up our own wants in order to serve Him faithfully. By doing so, we will experience the joy of living for Him and being a part of His kingdom here on earth.

To Have A Changed Life: A New Creation

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Because of our fallen nature, brought about by the sin of our first parents, we have been deemed sinners. Our mortal and imperfect lives are trampled by the forces of evil and darkness. But, thank God, He sent Jesus Christ for our redemption.

Obedience to God is the cornerstone of a changed and new life. Being a new creation means leaving our own way and old nature. God is the center of our lives, as we abhor our past lives that are self-serving and unpleasant in the sight of God. As Christians, we develop and inculcate godly habits, traits, and perspectives that result in lasting peace, joy, and righteousness.

Why Does Finding God Matter?

Increases Our Faith

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.

Hebrews 11:1–2

We sometimes waver in our faith in God or even doubt His existence. Like Thomas, the disciple, our minds and faulty reasoning sometimes look for empirical truths about the reality of God. But, faith is the foundation of our belief in God and everything else that pertains to salvation and godly living. The Bible says that “Without faith, it is impossible to please God.”

Assurance Of Salvation

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

— John 3:16

The salvation of our souls is the overriding objective and purpose of every believer. Christians know that life is temporary and that without Jesus, we are doomed to eternal judgment in hell, where fires and scorching pain do not end.

If we are to earn a seat in heaven, it is primarily important that we seek God’s face and the presence of Christ in our hearts, minds, and souls. Jesus Christ, our Messiah, is the only way to the Kingdom of Heaven.

7 Simple Steps To Find God

  • Through Prayer. It unlocks the presence of God and establishes two-way communication with our Creator. When we spend time in prayer, we find God.
  • Reading God’s Word. The Scripture is the source of truth. We find the precepts and commands of God in the pages of the Bible to help us in knowing God.
  • Fellowship And Church Gatherings. The congregation of the saints is essential in the building of our faith. These acts and gatherings with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ illuminate the presence of God.
  • Praise And Worship. When we sing songs to God, we exalt His holy Name. Praising and worshiping God magnifies His presence in our whole being.
  • Repentance. Being sorry for our sins and disobedience is the first step toward finding God. Without repentance and confession, our sins block the presence of God.
  • Become A Friend Of God. When we follow Jesus and ascribe to His commands, we become His friends. God wants us to have a holy companionship with Him now and forever.
  • Be Still. When we achieve the serenity of God in the perfection and beauty of His creation, we find His heavenly throne. Remaining still before Him is a solemn fellowship with our Creator.

Summary

Seeking God in our lives is a paramount aim that we should inculcate and pursue every day of our lives. The Great Commandment dictates that we are to “love God with all our hearts, souls, and minds.” We cannot love and adore Him if we are not in His spiritual company.

Sin and the concerns of this world often block the presence of God. But with the right amount of faith and our incessant goal of being with Him, no matter our circumstances, we will surely find ourselves in His presence.
