What Must The Cause Of The Universe Have Been Like?
If the origin of the universe were material, it would be subject to the same laws of entropy as the universe itself. That implies it must have had a beginning, and you face the same issue as with the cycles of the universe’s births and deaths. Therefore, the origin of the universe must have been supernatural, i.e., non-material or spiritual—a cause beyond space-matter-time.
Such a cause would not be subject to the rule of decomposition, and so it would not have a beginning. Therefore, the everlasting spirit must have been the cause. Moreover, the cause of the universe had to be immensely potent; the sheer vastness and energy of the universe testified to this potency; there had to be an adequate reason.
1. Everlasting
God existed in the past, continues to exist in the present, and will exist in the future. Psalm 9:02 says, “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.”
According to the Bible, time is a dimension that God created and subjected man to. God himself exists outside of the realm he created, and that will be referred to as “eternity.” Since he lives eternally, time has no effect on him. While we, as humans, confront the possibility of death, God does not dwell in it.
Additionally, Romans 16:26 also reiterates God’s existence as everlasting or eternal. “But now it is manifested, and by the Scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the eternal God, it has been made known to all the nations, leading to obedience of faith.”
2. Omnipotent
1 Chronicles 29:11–12 states, “Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand, it is to make great and to give strength to all.”
3. Spirit In Form
Because God is spirit, people who worship him must do it in spirit and in truth, as well as in the traditional sense. This is according to John 4:24. Additionally, note that the Bible says, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). Here, God created time itself. Only one who is outside of time, that is, timeless or eternal, could do this.
