The topic of salvation runs throughout the Holy Bible. Some specific words are seen in the sacred New and Old Testaments, such as redeem, assist, save, rescue, help, and deliver, to mean salvation directly.

In these verses, God invites us to truly believe in Christ through the Holy Spirit. When we decide to listen to the Holy Spirit’s direction and guidance, we shall find evidence of Christ’s truth within our inner selves.

God keeps doing His divine work using the Holy Spirit to safeguard his children and allow them to persevere. Although the Holy Spirit creates a very effective veil of protection, this can be destroyed if we decide to spend our lives and act on the side of evil. Today, it is possible to resist the influence of the Holy Spirit in the same way that early people behaved in Scripture.

Can You Lose Your Salvation?

Can a Christian lose salvation? When does a Christian lose their salvation? Are there any offenses that can cause a Christian to lose salvation?

A true, genuine Christian can never lose their gift of eternal salvation. John 10:27–29 tells us that Jesus is our guardian and shepherd, who safeguards and directs us, nourishes and saves us from life’s threats, and defends us against any individual who attempts to separate us from him.

We have full confidence in this blessing as long as we remain focused on receiving his words. As believers, we are all the sheep who graciously heed Jesus and obey him by faith.

Believers Of God Were Declared Righteous

Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand and rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.

— Romans 5:1–2

Justifying something means expressing one’s willingness to be virtuous. People who accepted Jesus as their Savior were “declared righteous” by the Lord.

God would’ve needed to take back His previous statements and change His word for a believer in God to lose their salvation. Those found to be innocent would have to face a new trial and be proven guilty. God would need to overturn the decision of the divine court.

Believers Of God Have Been Divinely Redeemed

For you know that it was not with perishable things, such as silver or gold, that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

— 1 Peter 1:18–19

The term “redeemed” refers to a purchase and the payment of a price. Humanity was acquired at the price of Christ’s death. For someone to be stripped of their salvation, God would need to withdraw the person He purchased with the Savior’s priceless blood.

Believers Of God Were Fully Known By God And Blessed With The Holy Spirit

You also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked with a seal of the promised Holy Spirit.

— Ephesians 1:13

The newly-born Christian is stamped and secured with the Holy Spirit at the first sign of faith and has promised to take action as a guarantee to ensure the divine reward. The eventual outcome is that God’s glory is exalted.

For you to lose salvation, God would have to remove the mark, take the Spirit, nullify the payment of Jesus’ sacrifice[1], violate His promise, withdraw the assurance, hold the inheritance, give up all the praise, and diminish His greatness.

Believers In God Were Guaranteed Everlasting Life

For God so loved the world, he gave his one and only begotten Son—whoever believes in him shall not perish but enjoy everlasing life.

— John 3:18

Everlasting life is the assurance that Christians will share eternity with God in his paradise. God guarantees eternal life to those who believe. Christians receive the promise of life forever. Thus, a Christian cannot lose salvation.

Does The Bible Say Salvation Is Secure?

Romans 8:30

God precisely knew everything, even before the creation of humanity, about whether or not we would believe in His only Son’s death, crucifixion, and resurrection. As Romans 8:30 tells us, “And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; and those He justified, He also glorified.”

God, with His eternal wisdom and understanding of everyone’s salvation, planned to give many hidden grace treasures to those who choose Christ as their Savior and have the Holy Spirit.

John 3:16

One of the most condensed explanations of the Bible’s true essence is undoubtedly seen in John 3:16. The verse’s major aim is to show God’s selfless love for mankind.

His love is so strong that He gave up His son, the most important and valued individual to Him, for the benefit of the world. Further, we perceive God as the creator of our faith through the person and life of Jesus (Hebrews 12:2).

Hebrews 10:14

At the moment of rebirth, we were placed in Christ and cleansed in Him “once and for all.” As Hebrews 10:14 taught every one of us, “For by one offering, He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.”

We were united with Jesus, which is a divine act that cannot be reversed in time or forever. We have been sanctified. We have become one with the Savior. We are saved because of Him. Our eternal salvation is Christ’s powerful work.

1 John 5:11–12

When we have wholeheartedly dedicated our lives to the Lord but are still unsure about our salvation, 1 John 5:11–12 reminds us of our gift: “And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”

This particular excerpt is probably the most convincing proof of God’s gift of everlasting life. This isn’t a nice attempt to encourage everyone to believe in Jesus. Rather, Jesus comforts them by reminding them of how they have already been given eternal life. This guarantees salvation, for God never breaks a promise or lies.

Romans 11:29

This provides confidence to all Christians that they will not lose their salvation. We are saved after we have totally placed our faith in Christ to redeem us, and God can’t take the gift of salvation away from us.

The Lord cannot change His decision. We all receive the gift of eternal life, which cannot be taken back “for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable” (Romans 11:29).

How Do We Lose Our Salvation?

The Risk of Slipping Away

The Bible’s message on God’s enduring force in our daily lives is essential to comprehending what it means to be saved.

We may be confident that God is carrying out what he said to help us stay faithful and loyal. But trusting in Him does not imply becoming indifferent toward the steadfastness to which He invites us. God’s assistance must be matched with our Christian responsibilities.

In the teachings of John, Jesus demonstrates how the two interact. Here, Jesus delivered a caution. People will be cut off if there isn’t any growth. They will be tossed into the flames (John 15:2, 6), which is very certainly referring to hell.

The answer to our safety in Jesus is to “remain in Him.” The Lord gives everything we need for our salvation; however, we must continue to live in a good relationship with Him to “remain in the vine” and to produce the reward of a restored life.

Constantly living with no transformed connection that depends on God’s strength becomes extremely risky; we may reach a stage when we cease to remain in Him.

Our disobedience and rebellion can lead to a cold disposition toward God if we fail to respond continuously to the Lord’s presence and influence. Our defiant conduct demonstrates that we have abandoned our faith.

Once this becomes a habit in our daily lives, it can lead to active rejection and the death of faith. Thus, we risk going to hell. We’ll be “thrown into the fire and burned” (John 15:6).

The Abandonment Of Belief

Apostasy defines the method by which a person abandons “saving faith” and loses salvation as a result of being apostate. It is not a one-time event but rather the product of continual decisions made—usually amid adversity and persistent temptations.

Nobody can tell for certain whether someone has gone over the limit and lost their bond with God. Only God knows the truth.

It is frightening how someone could still profess to believe, yet their trust in Jesus is not genuine. Biblical harmony argues that God provides grace and safety for a Christian to keep walking with him.

Christians, on the other hand, must keep on adhering to God by faith. Christians have a sincere relationship with God because of our obedient faith. Obedience does not secure salvation, yet it is the natural result of true faith.

20 Sins That Could Cause You To Lose Your Salvation

Diving deeper into the Scriptures reveals that Christian people who regularly commit certain sins could face serious problems with the Heavenly Father. It might even jeopardize their salvation and righteous standing with Him. The following two passages will list more than 20 particular offenses:

The sins of flesh are clear: sexual immorality and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred and jealousy, rage, selfish ambition, dissension, factions, and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I am warning you: those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

— Galatians 5:19–21

Don’t you know that sinners will not inherit the kingdom of God? Don’t be fooled. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who have sex with men, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor swindlers will enjoy the kingdom of God.

— 1 Corinthians 6:9–10

In both texts, the act of adultery is particularly addressed. Does this imply that any Christian who habitually cheats on their partner faces the possibility of losing their everlasting salvation?

Perhaps God believes that if people can’t be loyal and trustworthy to their husband or wife, then they won’t be able to remain faithful and committed to Him for the rest of eternity when they join paradise.

Take into account what occurred to Satan and several of the angels. They were unable to remain faithful and devoted to God in the end, and as a consequence, they attempted to rebel and resist Him, then were later cast out of the kingdom of God.

The aforementioned two passages speak about non-believers. For instance, the Cambridge English Dictionary describes the term “idolater” as ”someone who worships and prays to an object or picture as part of a religion.”

Conclusion

Everlasting salvation is all God’s work because no human can redeem himself. In Isaiah 51:6, God proclaims, “My salvation will be forever.” The most popular concept of salvation appears in the verse where Jesus Christ arrived to rescue us and provide us eternal life (John 1:29).

Though certain Bible verses describe specific violations that result in someone losing their chance to go to heaven, God continues to act to keep us safe and supply us with the strength to endure through the power of the Holy Spirit. God guarantees to keep us secure, ensuring no condition, scenario, or even Satan can take us out of God’s loving arms.
